Children’s wear that brings African heritage to life in a fun, playful and dazzling way
Nana Kid was born out of a love for children and fashion. As a young child, designer Nana herself gained true appreciation for well-made quality garments, and it was a passion that grew in intensity over the years.
At Nana Kid, we value superior quality and practicality just as much as we do luxury and style.
Our children’s wear product range entails:

Our entire range has a focus on craftsmanship, originality, and vibrant detail. A lot of focus goes into ensuring comfortability while at the same time remaining fun and innovative.
All of our products will be characterised by simple, charming and practical pieces as the brand is all about showcasing a kids lifestyle that reflects imagination, style and adventure.
Our children’s wear embraces African culture through the use of bold, bright and beautiful prints that ooze individuality – just like every child we design for.
We believe that our products are relevant to a global audience, entails a unique history and tells an illustrious story that heroes African heritage in the hearts and minds of the young.
We are changing the conversation in children’s wear by seamlessly infusing traditional patterns and colours that are inspired by different countries, cultures and designs of the African continent.
Nana Kid is so much more than children’s wear, it’s about the magical world of childhood. Nana Kid takes the art of fashion to a place of expansive imagination. We include children in the design process in order to best represent their imagination and style preferences.
Children, by their very nature, are playful and imaginative and Nana Kid is all of this in abundance.
About the name “Nana” and the use
of bold colours
The nickname “Nana” is commonly used as an affectionate term for a baby or a toddler or someone that is adored.
Did you know that colour has the ability to inspire, excite, soothe and heal – especially during early childhood development? Primary colours appeal to children, as these colours convey different emotions and help improve their memory.
Sweet childhood experiences and memories are invaluable. Colourful garments can help seal them forever.
The person behind the brand
Nana believes that every child should have an unforgettable and happy childhood. To her, fashion can play an important role in ensuring this because confidence and comfort through the expression of individual style makes unforgettable memories. Whether at the beach or at the pool – or even while having indoor fun, the voices of children having fun really come to life – and this time it will be in style!
“In the creative process, I always allow the children in my family, circle of friends and neighbourhood to form part of the decision making process. I design for them and therefore their input is invaluable. I ask them how they want to look and feel when going out for a swim, on vacation, to the mall, to the beach, at home or even to a birthday party or any other fun-infused event they enjoy. It has been humbling to realise just how sure children are of how they want to look, especially how they feel in their outfit. That’s how I always know I’m heading in the right direction in terms of design when my “models” don’t want to take off the swimwear or clothes they had to try on for me. If their faces lit up when they see a design, my heart is filled with jubilation” – Nana
Nana wants to create children’s wear that allows children to feel free, boldly stylish and unique. Childhood is such an exciting and fun experience for children and Nana wants them to feel super fashionable while going through it.
A passion for African style born in the US
Growing up, Nana lived in the US from the age of 5 until 12. At the time, she was too young to fully understand her African culture but she remembers noticing many people in the streets of New York dressing up in casual items that expressed elements of African culture.
The bright patterns were so unlike what people would normally wear and it made her curious and extremely proud to be African. Back in South Africa, Nana soon realised that these bold patterns of African heritage were often only saved for special occasions. She decided to change this. Her love for children and children’s fashion brought her to Nana Kid!
“Bringing out beauty through African designs and art is what I look to include as I build the brand.”
